Fr. Ted died Sunday, January 13, 2007 after 11pm in Spokane, WA. As many of you know, Ted had a recurrence of cancer and had been battling it this past year. In early December, he moved from his home in Bellevue to the Oregon Providence Infirmary in Spokane, Washington in order to receive better care. Father Ted handled many Zembal family marriages, funerals, and baptisms through the years. Francie (Zembal) House described him as "a gift to our family." Ted was the son of Carl and Anna (Auntie) Zembal of Aberdeen. He is survived by a sister (Sr. James) and brother, Marion. The funeral was at Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue, Washington, Saturday, January 19th at 9am, 9460 NE 14th Street, Bellevue, WA. Viewing was Friday, Jan 18th 4pm - 7pm at Hoffner Fisher & Harvey Chapel, 508 N. 36th St., Seattle. |

Following is an excerpt from an email received from Rosemarie (Zembal) Majeski describing Father Ted's memorial mass. He touched the lives of many. |
I picked up Mom (Mary Zembal) Friday night and we spent the night with Francie in Kenmore, Wash. Joey picked up Mary Ann. We attended the 9:00 A.M. mass Saturday morning. Irene Stipic, her two girls, and Bill and Julie Gurrad also attended. Marion(Walter), his wife, Barbara, and son, Mark, and daughter, Carla, as well as Sister James were all there. They were pleased to see the Zembal family so supportive, and there to honor Fr. Ted. Father Ted had been working on several books. Mary Chien, his long known friend, and caregiver in the ending days, wants to see that they get finished. I don't know where they are in the process, certainly not published yet. One was dealing with how the Catholic church should cope with the shortage of priests. His ideas were so far above me when I talked to him last May that I just listened, having too little knowledge on the subject to ask more than a few basic questions. He felt commissioned by the Holy Spirit to do this. The eulogies given by niece, Carla, and nephew, Mark, were personal, remembering how he brought specialness into their lives. Carla is a professor at Pennsylvania State U, and Mark is in marketing in Phoenix. His eulogy was written on his laptop. All were very friendly, and visited each of us personally. They had to get around to all there, so couldn't spend a long time with us. They were all in Seattle for just a day or two, if I'm not mistaken. At least the kids, I know were flying out that evening. I'm glad we attended. Fr. Ted married us, along with Fr. Dominic, and baptized two of my three kids, and two of my grandchildren. He visited my parents several times a year. God bless him for sharing his brilliance with us, and his kindness. |
